Always
consult with your Builder, Site Engineer, Landscaper, Paviour, Paving
Distributor for details specific to your site, paver type and
intended use.
All paved areas require an appropriate foundation. The underlying
sub layers below the flag surface course and laying course need to
be correctly designed and prepared to accommodate the anticipated
loads.
Good composition of each sub-layer, particularly when used by
vehicles, should prevent pavers becoming displaced or rocking.
Two
types of pavements exist:
1.
Flexible - Bedding course of well graded course sand, over a
specific designed base course and sub-grade.
2.
Rigid - Pavers are installed into a (wet) sand cement bed or a thin
bed cement based adhesive, over a
concrete slab base.

1
Delivery
Delivery will be kerb side. However if requested we will do our
utmost to meet other delivery requirements if at all possible and
place the pavers where requested, this placement is strictly at the
discretion of the delivery driver whose decision will be final and
based on his experience along with the safety of your premises and
his equipment.
2
Discrepancies
Please check this order for size, colour, quantity, quality.
Discrepancies must be within 48
hours. Goods unpacked or pallets moved - relocated from the place of
delivery will not be considered under any circumstances in the event
of a return or exchange.
3
Damage-Colour and Thickness Variation
As a hand made product manufactured to industry standards using
natural materials. iPAVE pavers and tiles will have surface
imperfections, colour variation. Chipped pavers
should be put aside and used for
cutting. Should the order be greater than one pallet the pallets
must be blended during laying.
4
Installation
Always adopt good licensed paver and tile laying / paving practices.
~ Your paving outlet will be able to make a recommendation. ~ Whilst
most paving layers and tilers would have experience laying and
cutting iPAVE if need be have them contact your paving outlet,
tile shop or iPAVE technical department for advice prior to
quoting and commencing. As with all pavers we recommend minimum 3 - 5mm
gap between the pavers to prevent chipping. For the DIY person
we recommend that you consult with a
licensed trades person before commencing.
Laying
40/45mm Pavers
Pavers
must be laid over a well drained sub base suitable for your
particular site conditions so the pavers do not subside. ~ All edge
pavers must be contained to prevent the bedding material from
washing out.
When paving over a concrete slab, a sand and cement mortar base
(maximum 30mm) or a thin bed cement based adhesive can be used. Any
cement laitance or scale must be wire brushed from the backs of the
pavers prior to them being primed with a mixture of cement and
Readyfix Super Primer Additive before laying. Failure to do so will
most likely result in a drummy installation Good drainage is essential,
ensure water can drain freely from both
beneath and over the pavers. Poor or
inadequate drainage will cause staining and effect paver
performance.
Grouting
For general paving areas we recommend the use of fine washed kiln
dried pointing sand. This will be available from your paving outlet.
For pool copings, paving etc mortar/glue fixed to a reinforced concrete
slab or surround we recommend wet grouting with clean, salt free,
washed sand and cement grout. Please Note:All cement based grout
must be washed off thoroughly with clean water and a sponge before
it commences to set. Change the washing water regularly.
DO NOT USE ACID.
iPAVE
recommend
using Ready-Fix Building Adhesives
for all your adhesive and grout requirements
5
Cutting
As with most tiles of this type, iPAVE must be cut with a wet
diamond saw of good quality. Ensure the sediment is rinsed off
thoroughly before the paver dries as the sediment can cause
staining.
6
Compaction All iPAVE pavers must be laid and levelled individually at
the time of laying as their larger size does not allow levelling of
40mm thick pavers with a compactor plate. ~
For the larger pavers the iPAVE
Brick Lifter is a distinct advantage for levelling ~
If a compactor plate is used then the metal base must be covered
with a double layer of carpet to prevent chipping.
7
Cleaning
It is essential to keep the pavers or tiles clean and free from soil
oxides, cement, mortar droppings, leaves, bark, rubber tyre or boot
marks, etc. during and after laying as these can stain the pavers.
iPAVE recommend if necessary
spot cleaning by hand using a
industrial strength non-acidic detergent. While some pressure
cleaners can be used successfully, pressure cleaners with to high a
pressure and or a nozzle distance too close can cause excessive
pitting. Always do a small trial area first to assess the
performance of the pressure cleaner and the correct nozzle distance.
DO NOT USE ACID.
8
Sealing As with many products such as stamped or stencilled concrete
unglazed Terracotta tiles and various other masonry products
we
recommend sealing prior to use to prevent staining. In particular
BBQ areas, driveways, leafy or muddy areas, pool copings and
surrounds (While all iPAVE products surpass the tests for salt
water compatibility, pool chemical imbalances can on rare occasions
cause a problem) .
9
Recommended Sealer For a matt finish
iPAVE recommend one coat of
BASE COAT
and one coats of TOP COAT.
For a wet look finishiPAVE recommend two coats of
TOP
COAT. If a darker more glossy finish is desired then apply an
additional coat of TOP COAT. (If required it is possible to add
an anti slip powder to the sealers for additional slip resistance.)
Contact your paving supplier or iPAVE for individual
recommendations.
10
Efflorescence
Whilst iPAVE have few problems with this due to our high
quality, method of manufacture and on going research in this area it
is none the less a potential problem for the clay and masonry
industry. ~ As the occurrence of efflorescence is beyond our control
no guarantees
are given. ~ If efflorescence appears it is visible as
a lightening in colour of the paver or white powder on the surface
and is sometimes mistaken as fading. Major industry studies show
that weathering will eliminate the problem or in most cases the
application of a sealer will prevent the potential problem. Do not
pre stack the pavers in a criss-cross manner or leave objects on the
pavers for any length of time prior to sealing as this can cause
efflorescence marks which can take some time to disappear. Good drainage of both the paver surface and the under-bedding
material is essential and in most cases will assist greatly in limiting
efflorescence.
11
Maintenance
On a semi regular basis sweep and or hose any leaves, dirt etc from
the pavers. If necessary wash with warm water and an industrial
strength non-acidic detergent. Re-seal with one coat of
TOPCOAT as may be required or felt necessary approximately every two to
three years depending on wear and tare and appearance required. DO NOT USE ACID.
12
